Three new appointments at Bennett Freehill

We are delighted to announce that Sean McGivern, Colin Smith and Ronan Mulrine have joined the Bennett Freehill team, further enhancing our expertise, knowledge and the professional service we provide.

Sean McGivern MCIBSE CEng | Associate Director
Sean joined Bennett Freehill in May as Associate Director having spent the last 12 years working in the Middle East and Asia and will be leading the operational and technical delivery of the MEP team.

Sean brings over 30 years’ professional experience in infrastructure, construction and engineering and his strong technical ability in design, project management, leadership, operations and development delivery to further enhance the Bennett Freehill team. He has acquired broad experience in the design and construction of hospitality, educational, commercial, residential, healthcare, retail, financial and government sectors, having worked in the UK and internationally.

Sean is a qualified APM Project Manager and his previous roles include Senior MEP Project Manager, MEP Director and Technical Director on numerous projects including high-rise ranging in value up to £3.2 billion construction cost.

Sean has received many accolades in recognition of his skills and capabilities including a Middle East Leadership Award in 2017 from a major international consultancy during his time in Qatar and an Appreciation Award in Construction Safety Excellence in 2022 from his former Client in the UAE.

 

Colin Smith MIET CEng BEng | Associate Director
Colin joined Bennett Freehill in March as Associate Director. Having worked in the construction industry for 20 years, Colin has experience of working in multi-discipline consultancy specialising in project management and delivery of complex and mission-critical projects globally.

Colin brings his integrity, passion, professionalism and enviable track record of successfully delivering projects on time and within budget to the Bennett Freehill team having managed projects ranging from a £60 million mission-critical Hospital Energy Centre and a €125 million major rail infrastructure project in Ireland, to a £300 million 300,000 tonne strategic grain storage facility in the Middle East. Colin has gained extensive experience in the education, healthcare, commercial, Tunnel services, industrial and residential sectors.

As a leader and project manager Colin is adept at resource and risk management, project team and stakeholder management, communication and engagement – ensuring the project scope aligns with business objectives. His impressive leadership style empowers his team members to achieve collective goals while providing a supportive work environment.

 

Ronan Mulrine BEng | Mechanical Engineer
Ronan joined our Mechanical Engineering team in March having gained 5 years’ experience with both an MEP consultant and MEP contractor working on a range of projects including residential, student accommodation, healthcare, education and commercial projects throughout the UK and Ireland. Ronan brings his skills, experience and knowledge in mechanical and sustainable design using AutoCAD, IES Virtual Environment and Revit software to the team.

Paul O'Neill

Paul joined Bennett Freehill in late-2021 as part of the organisations drive towards technical excellence, an employee-focused culture, strategic growth and NZEB focus. 

A Chartered Engineer with 14 years’ experience in the construction and electrical industries, Paul has particular specialisms in electrical engineering, conservation, power generation and vertical transportation having worked on projects in the education, healthcare, hotels and office sectors. 

As electrical engineering design lead, Paul is responsible for technical delivery and project responsibility related to electrical engineering, and more critically, directing technical, quality and standards within the engineering teams.

Paul brings his passion for technical quality, buildability, progressivity and efficiency to the Bennett Freehill team.

Aaron McCarthy

MCIBSE CEng BEng

Aaron is a Chartered Engineer who specialises in sustainability and low carbon design, with detailed knowledge of passive design techniques and thermal modelling procedures.

Aaron joined Bennett Freehill in mid-2021, having previously gained 10 years’ experience as an Energy and Building Services design engineer within leading multi-national building services practices. Aaron brings extensive experience in managing and delivering large scale multi-disciplinary projects and has a wealth of experience in MEP Project Management.

Aaron is responsible for client liaison, technical delivery and management of design teams to ensure we meet our clients aspirations.

Aaron brings his passion and drive for successful project delivery through collaboration with clients and design teams.

In May 2022 Aaron was appointed as Partner.

Cormac Freehill

A Chartered Building Services Engineer with over 15 years’ experience working with some of the UK’s foremost engineering companies, Cormac has been pivotal to the successful award and delivery of multi-million pound projects since being appointed to the role of Managing Director in June 2020 and rebranding the business as Bennett Freehill.

Cormac brings a new vision, new energy and fresh leadership to the team and is responsible for the strategic growth and development of the business, through supporting and undertaking marketing activities, and the training and development of our technically accomplished staff.  In the role of design team leader and client liaison Cormac ensures that the team delivers pioneering, pragmatic MEP design excellence for our clients. 

Cormac specialises in Passivhaus and Nearly Zero-Energy Building (NZEB) construction and is passionate about, and professionally skilled in, Renewable Energy Systems, Energy, Procurement, Design Management and Consulting Engineering.
