One of our recently completed projects, Ulidia Integrated College in Carrickfergus, has been featured in the RSUA Perspective magazine (Issue 3 – 2025), showcasing the power of collaborative design in creating sustainable educational environments.
Working as part of the Hamilton Architects led design team, we demonstrated how sustainability can be embedded from day one of a project. As Graeme Ogle from Hamilton Architects noted in the feature:
“Sustainability was embedded from the outset, beginning with a fabric-first approach. The building is highly insulated and airtight, reducing energy demand and operational carbon.”
This philosophy guided every decision throughout the design and construction process, ensuring that the building’s environmental performance was optimised before considering additional technologies.
Hamilton Architects provided the architectural vision and expertise, creating spaces that serve both educational needs and environmental goals, while the Bennett Freehill team delivered comprehensive Mechanical and Electrical Engineering services, ensuring that building systems work in harmony with the high-performance building envelope.
This project is a testament to what’s possible when sustainability is prioritised from the earliest design stages. By focusing on building fabric performance first, we’ve created an environment that minimises energy consumption while maximising comfort for students and staff.
