Project Information

The historic fabric of the WII Trainer Dome, a thin reinforced concrete shell, and associated history will be conserved and presented as a space for multi-purpose events. It will feature a 360-degree projection capability, with an immersive space for historical exhibitions and creative projects. A new modular structure complementing the dome will house an office, accessible WC and store.

Situated at Artikelly, Limavady it is the only building of its kind in Northern Ireland, and one of only six in the United Kingdom.

The dome was used by the RAF to train flight bombers and gunners during WWII, warfare conditions were simulated by using sound effects and projecting imagery on to the curved interior surface of the dome with trainees using a dummy gun unit to test their accuracy.

• MEP Design
• Conservation of Scheduled ‘At Risk’ building
• Of international significance for the role it played as part of wider airfield
