New Modular Central Sterile Services Department Facility at Queen Elizabeth Hospital King’s Lynn

Last month 39 modular units were installed on the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, King’s Lynn site to create a new Central Sterile Services Department (CSSD).

The Bennett Freehill team is delivering the MEP design alongside McAvoy and Dowds Group for this essential new 900m² decontamination facility – which cleans, decontaminates and sterilises medical equipment and instruments used in operating theatres – a service essential to the QEH Theatres department and the life-saving operations they perform every day. In addition, a new 154m² enclosed link corridor will be created to ensure seamless movement between the new unit and main hospital.

McAvoy’s innovative SmartCare® modular solution has ensured fast and efficient project delivery, with installation taking just 5 days, minimising any disruption to the live hospital site.

The new facility is expected to be operational from summer 2025.
