Our team is very proud that the South West College Erne Campus has won the regional RICS Public Sector Project award and the Grade B1 School House at Methodist College Belfast has won the RICS Heritage Project award.
Bennett Freehill provided Mechanical and Electrical Engineering design services on both these iconic projects. The drive to be at the forefront with innovative, practical sustainable solutions is at the core of our business.
The SWC Erne Campus is the world’s first educational, and currently the largest, Passive House Premium rated building. The first building in the UK to achieve both PHP and BREEAM Outstanding accreditations, yielding an anticipated 90% reduction in energy costs, it provides an international exemplar in the achievement of nearly Zero Energy Building for the Public Sector. The Judges said:
This exceptional project has received accreditation for achieving high standards of excellence in terms of sustainability and design. The integrity of the building provides for future generations in terms of employment, developing skills locally for young people and an overall enhancement of the infrastructure in the region.
The School House at the Methodist College is an excellent example of how thoughtful design and excellence of service has reimagined one of Belfast’s most iconic buildings to make it fit for 21st century educational requirements. The Judges said:
This project was a successful revitalisation of an iconic but tired building into a modern fit for purpose accommodation at the heart of the school.
The RICS Awards showcase the most inspirational initiatives and developments in land, real estate, construction and infrastructure. They recognise outstanding achievement, teamwork and companies.
Congratulations to the whole project team.
